Running a small business is challenging, rewarding, scary and exciting. I knew it would be, but I didn't know until I started living it. Here are a list of skills, processes and knowledge I have learnt over the last few months. If you are starting your own small business and would like a chat, or to share experiences I am 100% up for that! I am constantly learning, constantly wanting everything I do to be better. Drop me an email if you'd like a chat, I would love to meet you (hello@daphneandsybil.com).
1. Shopfiy - what it is, how it works, creating an e-commerce website
2. Engaging with different audiences, creating content
3. Planning and scheduling content
4. Pooling a support network of knowledge, reaching out and finding the right people.
5. Feeling scared and doing it anyway
6. Balancing perfection and 'good enough'. I want it to be perfect, but at some point every task needs to be completed.
7. Product photography - I am still very much on this learning curve and it is one of my mail focuses
8. Coping when things go wrong
9. Creating lists of everything I would do differently next time, and reviewing it to make those changes
10. Recognising a work life balance, transitioning between being single focused on my business and switching to a bustling family life
11. Numerous additional Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Express skills!
12. Doing all of it. All of the parts of running a business that I don't enjoy (spreadsheets, costs and ordering), as well as the ones I do (drawing, printing, making).
13. Networking, joining, showing, discussing, talking and most importantly connecting
14. Organisation. Utilizing all of my project management skills, with no team to back me up! Plenty of cheer leaders though!
