What makes each pair of earrings unique?

What makes each pair of earrings unique?

Every pair of Daphne & Sybil earrings is unique, one of a kind, nobody else in the world will have an identical pair to yours. This is down to the processes behind making them.

My first step is to select the visual materials to make a print from. These might be drawings and textures, or photographs which I have taken.

photo negatives and fabric textures printed on acetate and placed on the glass of an exposure unit
Using greyscale images, or black and white negatives I make prints from the materials. Both print processes I use are experimental, which means it is difficult to predict the precise end result. I change colour drums on the riso, or coat paper differently for the cyanotypes. I put riso prints back into the machine to add additional colours, sometimes reversing the image.

pairs of cyanotype prints I work out the pairs! This is very satisfying and very time consuming!

Then I can start putting the earrings together, giving each one layers of protective varnish, and stitching the drops together before adding studs backs to every pair. Once made, product photography and website listing begins!
So there you have a full behind the scenes overview of the process which makes your earrings unique!
